Tenshin Kaisen

Title : Tenshin Kaisen
Publisher : Meldac
Game Type : Shooter
Console : GameBoyOriginal

Price : £12.99

A similar title to Kikikaikai with its scrolling shooting action, Shinto priestess and many references to Japan of old in lanterns, Oni bosses and hopping, one eyed umbrellas. In the GB game however the action is force scrolled along, but this is a fine little blast for fans of a Japanese flavoured broth with many varied ingredients thrown into the stock.

Death Mask

Title : Death Mask
Publisher : Wantan International
Game Type : Simulation
Console : SegaSaturn

Price : £9.99

A FMV Sci Fi adventure in which players head to the seediest depths of the underworld to find out what is going on when they awake with an identity that doesnt fit and worse still is that of a master criminal. If this was a Holywood blockbuster the lead role would definitely be Nicholas Cage, but it ticks all the right boxes and isnt ashamed of what it is.

Landstalker

Title : Landstalker
Publisher : Sega
Game Type : RPG
Console : MegaDrive

Price : £7.99

Successful and sizeable isometric RPG which launched Ladystalker and Climax Lander and the related Dark Saviour. The isometric perspective allows for some exquisite graphics, yet can be a bit testing when jumping skills are required. Still with such cunningly created puzzles and emotive storyline, its very easy to forgive.

Shikigami no Shiro Evolution Blue (New)

Title : Shikigami no Shiro Evolution Blue (New)
Publisher : Alfa System
Game Type : Shoot Em Up
Console : XBoxOriginal

Price : £17.99

Rumoured that there are only 10,000 copies of each of the two Evolution variants in circulation: Red with the female protagonists on the front cover, Blue with the male. Besides the cover changes, Evolution comes with an extra gameplay mode over the original version plus a bonus PC CDROM featuring the series' luscious art. Based on the popular Japanese arcade blaster, Shikigami brings vogue to a genre sadly neglected on this generation of machines. Verticle perspective, play is as one of five human characters with a further unlockable character not available in the arcades. Also five levels, each with three stages. Dispatched enemies drop coins which are used to bolster your weapons. Massive bosses and adrenalin pumping soundtrack, but its the 'weapon boosting' element when you are close to an enemy that gives Shikigami its uniqueness and encourages you to dice with death just a little more. And such arcade thrills and spills are most welcomed on the XBox. Also known as Castle of Shikigami.

Beautiful gaming world looking straight out of a Miyazaki anime with all manner of flying contraptions that keeps the action fresh. Lovingly presented in a wartime movie style, the overall package oozes quality of a bygone era.

Competent arcade blast with some very demanding tunnel sections and some clever parallax effects. Thankfully stabilisers can be collected to protect your ship from collisions within the confined spaces of the tunnels. Space Battleship Gomora

Title : Space Battleship Gomora
Publisher : UPL
Game Type : Shoot Em Up
Console : MegaDrive

Price : £54.99

Very original title which does its own thing in having ships that expand and contract and a special targetting technique. The devlopers have decided to sacifice game speed for graphical exhuberence and the results look very impressive with some slick tricks, especially considering the age of the title. Four insect inspired ships to select each with their own unique weapon system gets Gomora off to a good start. The pulse shot comes in handy, but not half as much as the controllable orb that can be manipulated around to save your on screen bacon. A very imaginative array of organic looking enemy ships lies in carefully patterned wait in each bio disaster themed level. Also known as Bio Ship Paladin.
