“Everybody Street” - Street Photography in NYC

The good people over at Desillusion Magazine are continuously inspiring to us by showcasing the culture, fashion and lifestyle shared by the surf-, skateboarding and snowboarding community.

Recently we stumbled upon the trailer of “Everybody Street” through their website: “The film illuminates the lives and work of New York’s iconic street photographers and the incomparable city that has inspired them for decades. The documentary pays tribute to the spirit of street photography through a cinematic exploration of New York City, and captures the visceral rush, singular perseverance and at times immediate danger customary to these artists.”

A little while ago we posted up the Perspective skate film Red Bull shot, featuring skateboarders Ryan Sheckler, Torey Pudwill, Ryan Decenzo and Zered Bassett. Now we have How To Film A Skate Movie - a behind-the-scenes look at the Hollywood-style production of the 16 minute short. It may not be what skateboarding is used to in terms of production, but Red Bull went all out, shooting with Anamorophic lenses and Phantom cameras which allowed footage to be replayed in super slow-motion. Whether you're into this style of filmmaking or not, it's an impressive process to watch and learn about. Check it out above!

ZBoard Sam Sheffer lead

I'm something of an electric skateboard veteran. Last year at CES I rode the Board of Awesomeness, an electric skateboard that uses a Kinect and a Windows 8 tablet to function. This year at CES I had the opportunity to ride the ZBoard; an electric skateboard that works like a Segway — leaning forward makes you accelerate, and leaning back slows you down. The ZBoard is yet another Kickstarter success we've seen here at CES 2013, and it blew my mind.

The fifth instalment in Desillusion's video series focuses on Californian skateboarder Dylan Rieder, who at just 24-years-old has already marked his place in the industry's history. With a great style and a fast pace, Rieder was awarded Skateboard Magazine's 2006 best amateur award and, since turning pro, impressed people the world over with mind-blowing tricks in videos like Alien Workshop's Mind Field. Speaking about the video, Desillusion say:

"This is Dylan is a total immersion in his everyday life, a celebration of raw counter culture: when aesthetics and style become much more than just a clever marketing strategy to seduce the largest number of kids, when the sun and streets of California come together to give us their utmost best."

QUIK is a new short film directed by skateboarding filmer Colin Kennedy featuring Quiksilver pro rider Austyn Gillette. Shot in Los Angeles, the video shows an idealistic day in the life of a skateboarder, cruising the streets (super fast) and effortlessly doing tricks which, in real life, must have taken quite a few attempts. The name QUIK not only references the speed of Gillette, but also the backers of the film - Quiksilver - without whom it would not have been possible. Watch above!
