Arabian Nights

Title : Arabian Nights
Publisher : Takara
Game Type : RPG
Console : SuperFamicom

Price : £19.99

Stirring and dramatic RPG with fantasy and organic gothic influences on the look, tidy avatars and a soundtrack that makes you want to don shield, pick up sword and charge up the hill. The combat is very nicely handled with isometric battles giving a good view on proceedings. A twinkling gem in the sea of SFC RPGs.

Septentrion (Cart Only)

Title : Septentrion (Cart Only)
Publisher : Human
Game Type : A Bit Special

A game based on a Poseidon Adventure style disaster, but executed with far more class. The gaming world rotates as the ship moves position causing new areas to open up and, unfortunately, close off with a deluge of saline solution. Your own safety must be balanced with the needs of those in trouble. A superb concept that draws you in to its disaster world.

Publisher : Nintendo
Game Type : One on One Beat Em Up

A classic case of a brilliant game released late into a hardwares life scale and as such some what slipping under the radar. A one on one fighter with some quirky differences that makes it a bit of a genre bender and all the more enjoyable for it. Anyway check out the Hardcore Gaming guide for a fine assessment... Layer Section (Saturn Collection)

Publisher : Taito
Game Type : Shoot Em Up
Console : SegaSaturn

Supreme shooting action from the old hand Taito remonstrating the 2D power of the Saturn in the right hands especially with the Parallax scrolling. Genki starts to get bogged down around level four, appropriately named 'The Frissure Of Consciousness'! But perseverence is always rewarded fairly.

 Lady Stalker (New)

Delightful isometric action RPG with the standard cart chase section, but plenty of nice gameplay additons of its own including tightropes, the shrunk down heroine taking on the giant and underwater sections. Stands out from the RPG crowd and remains refreshing and innovative after many a year.

Taiko no Tatstujin

Title : Taiko no Tatstujin
Publisher : Namco
Game Type : Rhythm
Console : PS2

Price : £16.99

Japanese release of the tub thumping American version which is best played with the Taiko Controller: hit in certain parts in tune to the on screen action. Wide spectrum of songs from Ridge Racer to Beethoven via Walking on Sunshine and Killer Queen. Three mini games too: a watermelon eating contest, a firework festival and a dog escape to a helicopter. Undeniably bizarre with smiling squids, dancing dogs and samurai turtles; but when it brings a Japanese festival into your home it can't be bad. Also known by its Japanese name Taiko no Tatsujin.
