In January of 2010, Kesha Sebert, known as ‘Ke$ha’ debuted at number one on Billboard with her album, Animal. Her style is electro pop-y dance music: she alternates between rapping and singing, the choruses of her songs are typically melodic party hooks that bore deep into your brain: “Your love, your love, your love, is my drug!” And at times, her voice is so heavily processed that it sounds like a cross between a girl and a synthesizer. Much of her sound is due to the pitch correction software, Auto-Tune.
Sebert, whose label did not respond to a request for an interview, has built a persona as a badass wastoid, who told Rolling Stone that all male visitors to her tour bus had to submit to being photographed with their pants...

Gaston Lacombe
Captive
In zoos all around the world, visitors go to admire some of the most beautiful, rare or fierce creatures on Earth, but often fail to notice the deplorable habitats in which they are kept.
I have been gathering pictures from zoos all around for the last three years. I like most zoos — I really do. Some zoos need to be congratulated for making great efforts at conserving endangered species, providing shelter to animals who could not otherwise survive and educating the public on ecological issues.
However, even in the best zoos, there are animals that are stuck in cement enclosures too small for their needs, or in rooms where the only vegetation they see are the plants painted on the wall. I’ve seen animals living in cages where they cannot even sit up, or have no access to daylight or clean water. At these moments, I feel guilty for supporting a system that treats animals cruelly, and at these moments, I take pictures.
Bio
Gaston Lacombe is a photographer and filmmaker, originally from the Canadian province of New Brunswick.
He has left his footprints all over the globe, including living in Latvia for 12 years, and is presently based in Washington DC. He completed his Professional Photography degree at the Center for the Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University (Washington DC campus), and also has studied at the B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. level in History.
He specializes mostly in documentary projects that have taking him to all corners of the planet. This includes an art residency in Antarctica with the government of Argentina in early 2012. His work has been shown in PDN magazine, the Washington Post, the Toronto Star, and many other publications. His photos have also been exhibited in solo and group shows in North America and Europe, including at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC.

Too often the subjects of images of Africa seem to be reduced to symbols - viewers do not encounter them as fully rounded human beings, rarely seeing journalistic images of the middle class, artists or the cultural heritage of African countries. Yesterday was the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, the day of the year when the sun was at its highest point in the sky. People around the world are welcoming the start of the new season by enjoying (or avoiding) the hot weather. In southern England, where yesterday brought heavy rains, pagans gathered at Stonehenge and reveled in spite of the downpour. Collected here are a handful of images of the beginning of Summer, 2012. TEDxGallatin - Michael Astolfi - Evolutionary Game Design: Video Games as Supernormal Stimuli
Michael T. Astolfi is a game designer, researcher, improviser, and all-around good guy. He holds a BA in Evolutionary Psychology from Boston University, and is currently pursuing a Master's in The Design and Psychology of Video Games at New York University. His games have been played as part of the 2010 Come Out & Play Festival, and are available to the public at the NYU Game Center Open Library at the TISCH School of the Arts. His essays have appeared online in the Chicago Tribune and LA Times. Find out more about Mike at his website, www.michaeltastolfi.com. The mechanics of many video games take advantage of innate human adaptations shaped long ago by the environment in which our ancient ancestors evolved. This phenomena occurs across many genres, and makes use of a wide range of human instincts studied by the fields of evolutionary psychology and sociobiology. In this talk, Michael examines how some of today's most popular video game take advantage of our subconscious instincts, and how this influences how we are affected by interactive digital media. This topic is particularly relevant today, as the rapid penetration of powerful personal devices is placing games in the hands of increasingly large numbers of new players. In thespirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a ...
