Check this Enrico Bossan interview… Enrico is a great guy… I got to know him in quite a funny way… Sometime last summer I received a Skype contact request from someone called Enrico Bossan, with whose work I was not familiar, but I accepted…Enrico gave me call later on the day..He wanted to get in touch to congratulate me for having some of my work published in L’Espresso… I was gobsmacked..I said I didn’t know I had any work published in the magazine.. Enrico was baffled.. He went back to the newsagents’ and came back with a copy of the magazine… It turned out he had confused Andy Spyra‘s work to mine….Needless to say I was teeny weeny bit disappointed that I hadn’t had work in the mag myself, but I’m glad Enrico made the mistake. Otherwise I might have not got to talk with him…We’ve had a couple of rather long chats online since, and I’ve learned a lot from him, especially regarding editing..

It has been a very rare occasion for me to write to photographers just to let them know I really like their work… Not a rare occasion because I wouldn’t admire a lot of photographers’ work…of course I do, but because getting in touch just to let people know that has always felt tad awkward, like I’m trying to kiss people’s ass.. Well, I did write somebody once, not too long ago… and that photographer was NYT staffer Damon Winter…and he even took the time to send a short reply despite being on assignment in Afghanistan, which was very thoughtful of him…well, Winter is the latest photographer featured on 500Photographers blog…

There’s a new issue of BJP coming out shortly – that’s the December one – but I’ve still been enjoying the November issue that I picked up at Vision (freebie disclaimer!!!!) …November was dedicated to portraiture…Plenty of good articles…I know a lot of people have said this before, but the magazine really is a lot better having turned from a weekly to a monthly…

Two photographers whose work was showcased in this month’s BJP were Ula Wiznerowicz and Eva Vermandel, neither of whose work I was familiar with before…

Just got back home to Wales after nearly 24h travel after having left Perpignan. Exhausted but thrilled. Very happy about my first Perpignan visit. A lot of fun was definitely had, but I feel I also had a very productive week in terms of having showed work to so many picture editors. The week was also a great learning experience having had the chance to talk face-to-face  to a lot of other photographers many with a long track record in the business. If you have never been to Perpignan yourself, I recommend to make room in you calendar for Visa Pour L’Image 2011.

One of the greatest things about my first Perpignan visit, was the flat where I was staying. We had a great crew: Sebastian Liste, Anastasia Taylor-Lind, Poulomi Basu, Dalia Khamissy, Olivier Laurent, and briefly also picture editors Rebecca McClelland and Rachel Palmer. I was very happy to spend my time with such talented bunch of people…

Sebastian Liste is the recent Ian Parry Scholarship winner and his winning work Urban Quilumbo is up on the FotoVisura blog…

Was reading the August issue of British Journal of Photography yesterday during all the travel. The magazine really is a lot more enjoyable read after having turned from a weekly to a monthly. The August issue had Lee Friedlander’s photo from his America by Car book on the cover. A lot of different blogs and sites have written about this Friedlander’s latest work. I like this New Yorker Photo Booth piece the best….

As you probably know already, Corinne  Day, passed away last week. Day was never a photojournalist, but I’m sure her Diary book influenced a lot of  documentary photographers, such as Jessica Dimmock and her The Ninth Floor project, I’d imagine, among others.

Just realised, I’m currently already 16 posts behind in putting recent links to the archive. Need to tackle the issue soon. It’s fine putting all the links here in the daily posts, but on a long term it’s more important that the links are archived in the appropriate categories. I feel the real strength of Photojournalism Links is in fact the archive.

Still have loads of emails to respond to as well. Will get on them today.

I’m leaving Wales behind on Thursday and relocating to Brighton with Veronica. We’ve been planning this for a long time. Feeling very excited about it. I know London and Brighton are full of photographers and competition is fierce, but I’m sure there will nevertheless be a lot more opportunities….Interesting times ahead…

I’m putting together portfolios for Perpignan and been wondering how to show my work as my big 12x16in portfolio box is back in Swansea where I’m not returning to before heading to Visa Pour l’Image end of next week via London.

Was in touch with Daniel Cuthbert who’s putting his own portfolios together and he pointed out this Lightstalkers thread he started…LS can be so useful. Shame about all the bickering that goes on there often…
