Just saw Christopher Morris’ photos from Pope John Paul’s beatification in Rome last month…Some frames made me think of Paolo Pellegrin’s photos of people morning the pope’s death six years ago…Almost like a bookend to Pellegrin’s series…whether it’s just because both are of Pope John Paul and in black and white, I don’t know…Have a look side by side.

Morris’ has a video of this as well, but apparently it cannot be shown before music license has been sorted out…Looking forward to seeing it as I’m a big fan of his Dear Leader and the two Obama short films…

The New York Times have interviewed young Iraqi girl, Samar Hassan, who six years ago appeared, at the age of five, in one of the most famous photographs from the war in Iraq… the Chris Hondros frame (above) portraying a child in a moment of terror after her father and mother were killed by U.S. Soldiers, after the family’s car failed to stop at a check point…

bin Laden, Obama, and the power of photography…

Osama bin Laden was killed by U.S. troops in Abbottabad, Pakistan, just a couple of days ago, and a lot of discussion has been raised about whether the U.S. should release photos of bin Laden’s corpse, as well as some debate around Pete Souza’s photos from the Situation room, and was it OK for photographers to snap President Obama after his speech to the nation announcing bin Laden’s death, in a staged setting…

The Guardian Guide, which is a little A5 size Saturday supplement to the newspaper, about current exhibitions; theatre, cinema, and TV listings, mentioned National Media Museum’s show The Lives of Great Photographers, which “aims to tell the life stories of some of the most renowned photographers of all time” (read it here)…one of the photographers featured is Weegee, and they even printed a photo of him taken by Richard Sadler…I found it fascinating, as I had never seen how Weegee looked like…
